Currently I have 8 GB of Kingston 1600 DDR3 installed in dual channel configuration (4GB in slot 1, 4GB in slot 3). Slot 4 is blocked by my oversized CPU cooler and I don't want to replace the cooler. So basically I want to put a 8 GB DIMM into slot 2 to double the memory size.
Would it be possible to keep the dual channel intact and then just drop the additional DIMM into slot 3? They say to keep the make and timing of the RAM the same for dual channel, but could I put a different make of RAM with the same timing into slot 3?
The user manual didn't have much to go on. Any thoughts are much appreciated!
