I'm looking at this case
Streacom F7C ALPHA HTPC Chassis

with their flirc addition
Streacom Flirc SE Universal Remote IR Receiver

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($110.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard ($113.89 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($36.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Blue 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($70.22 @ NCIX US)

either an M.2 SSD or a regular 2.5in SSD

and a slim slot loaded DVD Drive

Questions:

with all those parts what wattage Pico PSU am I looking at?

anyone know the size of the i3-6100 with stock cooler installed? (only room for 32mm in the case)
and will the stock cooler be enough or should I be adding a CPU cooler and case fan?

anyone have a recommendation on a slim slot loaded dvd drive?
would this one work? Dell DV-W28SL ($25)

last question is if anyone sees any conflicts with the parts listed please let me know

thanks

A 150W pico psu should be good.

The stock cooler will not fit. They are well over 32mm in height and require even more space for airflow above. You may have to revise your processor selection to one of Intel's low power variants (have "T" or "TE" in the model number) these models cost more, but produce less heat and use less power without sacrificing much performance.

Dell's drives work fine.

Don't see any other conflicts other then potential cooling problems with that CPU in such a small case.

Here is what the case manual says

"The type of drive fitted to the LOWER side of the tray will determine the maximum height of the CPU cooler
If installing a 3.5" drive, the maximum height is 28mm,
with 2.5" drives, the maximum height is 45mm,
and with no drives fitted to the lower side of the tray, the maximum cooler height is 55mm"

any idea how tall the stock cooler is on a 6100?
and are there any low profile coolers that will work?

thanks

Love those small form factor builds.

Because you have no discrete graphics card, a minimal psu is needed.
The i3-6100 is a 53w part. 100w should do it.
But, since a psu only uses whe wattage demanded of it, I might go for 125 or 150w.

I have a stock cooler and measured it. It is 45mm tall.
The i3-6100 uses smaller 14nm construction and does not need any extra cooling.
The stock cooler should be fine.

If you really want a quality unit that is smaller, noctua makes a NH-L91 that is only 37mm tall:

One thing to watch for in a slim dvd drive is the power and signal attachments. You will need a special combined signal and power cable to attach to a conventional motherboard.
As to slot loaders, I don't know.

I think you really need a 2.5" drive and not a 3.5" drive.
5400rpm 2.5" laptop drives do come in 2gb sizes, about $100 or so.
The case supports 2 2.5" drives, perhaps a 240gb ssd for windows and a hard drive for video storage.

Just to double check
those LGA 1150 coolers will fit the LGA 1151 correct?
that silverstone looks good.. cheap, small, and good reviews
thanks

side question what do you guys use to monitor CPU temps and what is the safe temp range for a i3 6100?

starting to order the parts now...

some questions on the Pico PSUs

will this combo work and be enough wattage?
picoPSU-150-XT + 102W Adapter Power Kit

from what I can tell if you get a 150w Pico Psu then a 102W adapter you only get a max of 102W? is that right?

they also have this one available
picoPSU-150-XT + 150W Adapter Power Kit

and this one
picoPSU-160-XT + 192W Adapter Power Kit

however those last two options seem to come with a different connector on the end
a "4 pin din" connector that I am not sure will work with my case

if anyone can help me out that would be great
thanks
