Background:
I got bad experiences with all kinds of fans. Fans become loud and drive me crazy after a while. Now with CPU Fans and Case Fans it's not a big problem. You can just exchange them. But not with normal Graphics Card Fans. And while back in the day I was able to just remove the fan completely from my Geforce 2 and add a fat Zalman passive cooler instead, that's not really an option anymore. I had several issues with fans in the past, making the fan one of the strongest factors determining the lifespan of a graphics card.
What am I looking for?
I was completely planning on buying a GTX 1070 from the Gainward Phantom series. But when I contacted Gainward they wrote back that this series was discontinued. There will not by any Phantom 1070.
For those who don't know these Phantom cards: They offered an easy way to take the fan out of the "case" of the graphics card in order to clean it. Also if a fan was damaged you were able to buy a replacement fan on amazon.
So...I am now wondering...which series of cards has the most reliable fans at the moment? Are there any other vendors offering cards where you can simply exchange fans? Maybe even use case fans? Of course you can do something like that with water cooling. But thats another source of problems and the costs are somewhat higher, so I'd rather stick to air cooling.
Unfortunately normally cards aren't really tested for this in reviews.
For now the only hint I got from somewhere else was that the EVGA ACX Cooling System should be good. But that was coming from someone who replaces his Graphics card every year anyways. And while the trailer on youtube looks fancy I am not sure how realistic it is. ^^
