The founders edition GTX 1080 only needs one 8 pin, so in that case you would just leave the 6 pin disconnected
But, if you get an aftermarket model ( which I would recommend ), these cards may require different power connectors.

I already have the card but why would you recommend an aftermarket model? I've heard of ppl having overheating issues but I haven't seen that yet. Hottest I have seen is 82 c without any sign of throttling.

not overheating, it's not able to maintain boost clocks over time
which sucks when you realize aftermarket versions should not have this issue at all
as most msi, evga, asus, etc have very good coolers, that is free performance
