Hard Drive Problem

Ever since putting in an older HDD today my SSDs have been plagued with slowdown issues that I just can't seem to fix. :(

Whether Windows 7 or 10, they take much longer to boot up, there's a several second delay before things load up, and everything just seems to hang/freeze between each action. It's always the worst once an OS is loading up. Checking the Event Log I'm getting nothing but warnings saying 'The IO operation at logical block address xxxxxxx for Disk 0 (PDO name: \Device\xxxxxx) was retried.' I'm totally at a loss as to what to do. I did reinstall the SATA AHCI drivers via the Device Manager, which seemed to fix the problem at first, but then the issue came back. :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there,

My guess would be the the HDD is failing. You can check it's health status with some HDD testing tool that can provide a SMART report. If this is the case, then you need to back up the data stored on it.

Though, it is strange that your system boots slowly even after taking the drive out.
You can attach the SSD to another SATA port. If you have spare cables, it will not hurt to swap those as well.
See if the SSD's brand specific tool would show something.

Thanks. I'll try both of those suggestions. I, too, suspect it's failing. :( Though it may even be both SSDs that are failing as I tried to install Windows 7 on another one and it failed. They're not even that old and they're certainly not cheap either. :-/

I don't get how putting in an older HDD could trigger something like this as they were perfectly fine before.

Would a faulty HDD/SDD cause loading problems for the Windows 7 Setup CD? To me, that's primarily read via the CD, but every time I try to run the setup it takes aaaaaaaaaaaaages to load anything up. :(

Wait, never mind. Just disconnected both SSDs and the Windows 7 setup booted up properly, so one (or both knowing my luck) is faulty. Great. :(

Also, how do you track threads? I must have accidentally hit the wrong link on my phone as now none of my threads are being followed/showing up.
