Why does the antimalware service taking too much cpu?

Does it help the cpu work better if i add more ram? Currently i have 3 gig ram and a intel pentium dual core proceccor. Will it make the cpu function better/faster?

3GB of ram is more than enough for home users. you are using microsoft defender as your antivirus and it is good for home users. if it take too much of ram the software is detecting an virus. so try to update the virus definitions and run a full system scan.
alternatively try this link http://www.wintips.org/how-to-fix-msmpeng-exe-high-cpu-usage-problem/

problem is defender database is not maintained properly for latest viruses...if u want to use microsoft, better use mse(microsoft security essential)...it does the same job but with more precision and its free from microsoft...
i use mse along with malwarebytes and they work wonders in tandem...
