Do these graphics cards need a psu more than 300W?

Solution
so a 65W CPU, 75W for the GPU (950), 50W for everything else is overkill. That still only gets you to 190W. Even allowing for spikes in power usage I think you'll be fine.

'for good performance' is just wrong, it will either work or not work, or cause the PSU to actually fail.

my 970 + 3570k@4.3, + rest of system only pulls about 350 from the wall.

A 75W 950+ a 100W CPU (worst case) + 25W for rest of system leaves a lot of headroom.

BUT it all depends on the quality of that 300W unit, i;m assuming it's a prebuilt system, dell or similar, they normally aren't bad, just small.

Yes it depend on the quality of 300W but you should always prefer little bit extra because in future if you want to update your graphic card or cpu then you need to upgrade your PSU for compatibility.
