Hey guys,

Modem/Router: Optus Sagemcom 3864v2
Speed: 4-6mbps Down / 0.6mbps Up

So basically as the title says, my internet has been spiking MASSIVELY for the past few weeks. Not entirely sure why. I switched ISP's but it was happening on my old one as well, though not to the same extent. I switched from Telstra to Optus (Australian here).

Whenever a family member loads up youtube we get pings upwards of 300-500, which seems weird considering I can watch Twitch streams on source quality and not go over 80 at most... Not entirely sure why this would be? Weird stuff like even going on speedtest to get my net speed to show you guys sends my ping through the roof.

The routers admin pages are a little confusing and seem outdated and very non user friendly...

What are some methods I can try using to fix this issue? Port forwarding? DNS? I'm totally lost, I don't expect it to be fixed entirely because my luck with this is horrible, just a performance increase is all I'm looking for..

Will provide screenshots / details as needed, wasn't too sure what else to add

Thanks!

0.06 upload? As in 6k? Is that a misprint?

I own an IT company that also is an ISP - if that's right then you are in the bracket where your upload is so slow that it interrupts the download - the server says 'did you get that last packet' and your reply of 'yes, send the next one' takes so long to go up to the server because someone else is requesting something that you get timeouts. That is normally a hardware issue on the line and won't change just because you change provider - you need diagnostics on the line.

IF that is a misprint (or I'm being monumentally thick for a moment ;) ), then usually you are looking at home wifi routers being a bit useless at handling multiple stream requests.

Sorry yeah that's meant to be 0.6mbps. Is that still an issue?

I've found that when someone is uploading too we get something like 4000ping. Getting these numbers by monitoring the ping through teamspeak, local server.

What do you mean by multiple stream requests? as in youtube and twitch together?

Thanks for the speedy reply!
