Hello all,

I was switching cases over the weekend and my daughter spilled juice all over the MOBO. Luckily at the time there was nothing on it, it was on the table by itself.

I thought I'd be able to find a cheap replacement online but there only seems to be one sold by Newegg for $150 and that's pretty considerable. I've been using my OC'd 2500K @ 4.5 so I wasn't really in the market for an upgrade.

At this point what is the better option, biting the bullet on the $150 last-gen mobo or should I look into upgrading into an i5-6500 + new mobo for around $350? My last full upgrade was 2011.

Thanks.

does the motherboard not work anymore? if it wasnt plugged in and you dried it, theres a good chance nothing was damaged. you could also try wiping any residue off with alcohol. if it's all sticky you could try rinsing the spot with juice on it, then let it sit in the sun or in front of a fan for a good 24 hrs at least.

Good advice from Dangus, the MB is almost certainly undamaged, so all it needs is a careful clean followed by a thorough drying period.
Best option for the cleaning is a contact cleaning spray, available at either an electrical parts store or a auto parts/tool company. Note, this stuff is a strong solvent an MUST be used outside and well away from sources of ignition. It is perfectly safe to use on the motherboard despite being a solvent. Unlike water or alcohol, it dries almost instantly BTW.

Consider Craiglist, Ebay or phoning around your local stores for a replacement MB if it turns out yours is damaged.

Yup, there was a lot of sticky-ness but I took my time and cleaned everything out and let it dry. Surprisingly it worked, I didn't think it would to be honest.
