If I were to upgrade my video card now, what card should I get to be able to run modern AAA games at maximum settings, 3440 x 1440 resolution, and maintain a minimum of 60 FPS? This performance level is what I consider ideal and I wouldn't want to put up with anything less.

Would the GTX 1070 be up to the task? Or maybe the GTX 1080? Or is no current card able to achieve that? Should I wait until the next generation of cards?

Currently not even the 1080 can get you 60fps in EVERY game at 4k or even Ultra Wide. While it can in most cases, games like Rise of the Tomb Raider will need 2 GPUs to reach an average of 60fps. If you decide to even turn Anti Aliasing all the way up (which is stupid at that high of a resolution if you ask me), you might not even hit 40 fps. You might wanna wait for a GTX 1080ti.

You'll need a GTX 1080 Minimum to run something like Battlefield 1, Ultra, 60fps, 3440x1440. But if you want the best experience and don't have a budget try to get GTX 1080ti, ot GTX 1080 w/ SLI
