Hello everyone, I am thinking about upgrading my good old HP Compaq dc7700 convertible minitower, quick specs:

Intel e7600 3.06 dual core
asus radeon hd 5570 gpu 1gb ddr3(lp)
4gb ram (at 667mhz :0 lol)
250 gb hdd
HP 0a58h motherboard

Cpu and ram cannot be upgraded further, but the GPU can. Now I am thinking about buying some sort of r7 250 and then selling the radeon 5570 (around €30-40 is what I'm expecting). PSU is no problem, it doesn't require power connectors and it won't be too much for just 365W. It would just fit in my case, depending on which brand I choose (current gpu is about 180mm, and still a little bit of space left). Now if I am lucky I can maybe get one for €40-60. But then the real question is: Is this still worth it? I know it's all very outdated but maybe the r7 250 can even make me some profit if I'm going to sell it after all.

Also, do you think my mobo will be able to handle this, it's only pcie express 2 but it's backwards compatible but I'm doubting about the Bios support maybe?

So, 1. should I spend money on this and 2. Will it even work..?

Oh I'm not playing super intensive games btw.

Thanks in advance!

The R7 250 would run more than 1 monitor far better. That said I think you're still better served saving your money for more of a full system upgrade, but thats your choice.

First answer, yes it will work.

Secondly though I personally would not spend the money upgrading it unless you have some lower end games in mind that you know will work. Your sale price for your old 5570 is very optimistic, and as well you are optimistic about what you may be able to sell the R7 250 for (or the whole system with it for).

What games are you looking to play, depending on that you likely will be better served saving your money and building a newer lower end gaming system.

Games like CS:GO, LoL that kind of stuff. I know I can already run those but not maxed out. I only spent €50 on what I have right now though, so who knows if I can make profit. I am indeed planning on getting a better system, but I'll wait a year or so till I have saved more and then the new AMD cpu's and gpu's will be released for sure so there will be huge price drops.

Btw I want to use two monitors although not 1080p but the r7 250 will do better I suppose.

OK thanks, if, only if I could get one for €40 (lol so cheap) would you advise me to do so?
