Hello everyone, I need some help and maybe you fine people could help me .

So here is my problem, I want to buy an AMD Radeon R9 290X graphic card (4gb) but I'm not sure if it will work with my motherboard and CPU.

Current Graphic card: AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series (1014.8mb)
Motherboard: MSI GA 760-P43
CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor
RAM : 4gb (could add another one to have 8gb)
System : Windows 10 64bits

It will work, yes, but your current CPU will likely prevent the 290X from running anywhere near its potential. You'll still have slowdowns in many games.

Before you ask, MSI lists your motherboard as compatible with up to an FX-83xx CPU, which would be a fair upgrade. FX CPUs are not great gaming CPUs, but it will be an improvement and it's the best you can do without replacing the motherboard too.

Unlikely, if you OC that Phenom II Quad Core it will run any game just fine with that 290X @ 1080P, in fact im running a 970 With A Phenom II And Doom Runs like a champ @ 1200P (1920x1200) near maxxed out except AA.

Im about to purchase a 1070 to replace my 970 while i wait for Zen.

Not to mention the Phenom II will outrun the FX seris chips clock per clock, but the FX is capable of reaching much higher clock speeds.

Save your $$ on the FX and wait for Zen or go Intel, the FX just isnt worth it past 1080P.

CPU bottlenecks and resolution have nothing to do with each other, and some games will definitely cause the Phenom to show its age.

Although Bulldozer (FX-81xx) was a step backward, Piledriver (FX-83xx) is definitely a step up from Phenom II.

It's worth noting that, if you have a weak CPU, AMD's GPUs are actually generally a worse choice than nVidia's, because AMD's DX11 drivers are a lot more CPU-heavy. This is not often seen, because most cards are benched on high-end CPUs, but AMD's tend to fall behind when paired with lower-end chips.

I ran into issue on a intel extreme board with a r9 270.. cant boot with the card, put the old gtx 490 and it booted.. installed the card in a newer motherboard worked fine.. so just cause you have a slot apparently new cards don't like some earlier i5 1155 boards. Just a side note " FYI "for those reading this
