Hi all. Bought a SanDisk 480GB SS, SATA III (that's what 6G/s means, right?), model SDSSDA-480G. I want to replace my Dell Precision M4600's optical drive with it. My laptop already has a Samsung EVO 860 250GB installed in the regular SATA drive port, but I wanna add on this SSD since my other one is already almost full and it's affecting loadtimes (at least, I'm pretty sure that's what's affecting loadtimes. also, the SanDisk I got for $70 shipped, could not pass up that deal!)

Figured out I needed a caddy, and then that the caddy needs to also be rated for SATA III to get maximum speeds out of this SSD. Pretty sure this is my best bet: http://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Adapter-Support-SATAIII-Connectivity/dp/B010CRVKUO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1464903382&sr=8-4&keywords=optical+drive+caddy

My main concern is whether or not the SATA connector where my optical drive was is SATA III or not. How can I check this out? Would installing this SATA III caddy + SSD on a SATA II really affect performance all that much? Also, any tips for installing this SSD once I get this situated would be greatly appreciated, have never done it before.

It doesn't really matter what SATA controller you have as whatever you have you are stuck with it. The same controller will run all the SATA ports in your laptop. You would be very unlikely to notice a difference between SATA II and III on a laptop. I'm not sure why you are concerned seeing you have already bought the new SSD!

I would suggest having a look inside your laptop before buying the caddy to ensure compatibility.
