I'm helping my friend upgrade his computer and he currently has an i3 540 which is way obsolete. We're currently planning on getting him an i5 4590 and H81 mobo for under $200 (trying to do this as cheap as possible). He's gonna be reusing his 2 sticks of DDR3-1600 ram from his original build.

If he's probably not going to be upgrading his CPU for at least another 4 years, would it be worth it to go for a 6600k + more expensive 1151 motherboard that can overclock + aftermarket heatsink that would add another $150ish to the cost?

The 6600k's can usually hit 4.3-4.5 GHz, right? Would the performance benefit be worth it? He plays on 1080p with a 750 Ti (might upgrade GPU a few years down the road).

Some other options are a 4690K, or an i5 6600. I don't think there's a right or wrong choice here, but I find that overclocking rarely extends the effective life of a CPU by very much. You're only going to get 10-15% extra performance, tops.
