[Win 7] Disable auto install of NVIDIA driver

I am trying to do a CLEAN refresh of my NVIDIA driver by uninstalling from the Programs list, then reinstalling the newest driver from the website. However, after the initial website, I get caught up in Microsoft's typical Windows updates pedantry, by seeing it automatically install a driver in the background. I've tried disabling this in the device installation settings ("Never install driver software from Windows updates"), but it still does it after rebooting. How can I uninstall that driver, and prevent Windows from doing this so I can run the installer for the driver I prefer instead?

EDIT: I would prefer a solution that does not require third party software, if possible.

Solution
It shouldn't be installing. If it's showing in update history then you can try to remove it.

Different mobos may have it set up differently. But ddu can restart into safe mode itself.

I had already tried that. I bit the bullet and installed DDU, had it uninstall on safe mode, then installed the prior driver. We shall see if that fixed it.

BTW: I am having trouble using F8 on boot. When I hit it, it takes me to a boot menu or the Bios screen. I had to choose safe mode in msconfig. Any reason F8 wouldn't work?
