My pc isn't recognizing my msi geforce gtx 970 graphics card. The lights and fans also come on. The cord from my power supply for the graphics card has 2 6 pin connectors that have 2 more plugins next to them, making it an 8 pin if they're used. My power supply is a EVGA 500 B. On the graphics card there is an 8 pin port along side a 6 pin. If i plug the 8 pin I get video output (My hdmi cable is plugged into the mother board, not the graphics card, if i plug into the graphics card i get nothing no matter what i do) But if i plug in the other 6 pin, nothing. And if I plug in the 6 pin without the 8, also nothing. The computer starts up but i get no video output. When I look in my BIOS it says no graphics card is detected. I tried cleaning out the port on the motherboard, nothing. I'm new to pc building, I started about 2 weeks ago. So I'm sorry for not wording things correctly and such. But I really need assistance. (Also, the cord coming from the power supply for the graphics card is only one cord. The connectors branch off into 2, I'll include a picture. I apologize for the poor quality)

Asus Z170-A motherboard
kraken x61 cpu cooler
msi gtx 970
EVGA 500 B power supply

Well when I plug the 8 and 6 pin both in I get no video output from the graphics card or the motherboard.
Thanks for your response

All I can honestly suggest mate if you don't have another PSU or even a whole PC tovtry the 970 on, is try it in one of the other PCI express slots.

You absolutely have the 8 pin plugged in fully ?? Slotting the 2 pin to the 6 pin before plugging it in??

There honestly should be no compatibility issues with your component list at all.

Yeah, I've made sure a million time. I feel like it's not getting enough power. I was thinking about getting a 15 pin to 6 pin adapter for the other port? All the videos I've searched for this graphics card have 2 separate cables plugged into each port, while mine is one branching into two. Do you think that could maybe solve it?

and I didn't mean to choose your response as an answer. I'm new to this. Sorry about that

Unselected for you mate, what's your monitor model ??
What cable type are you using to connect between 970 & monitor??

The 500b can power your 970 , I've powered bigger draw cards on the same PSU, currently have a 280x running off the 500b & it draws 50-60w more .
I think you have a handshaking issue between GPU & monitor.
