So 2 years i built my first ever computer that ran a pentium g3258 processor, Im planning on upgrading to a i5 6500 along with a MSI Pro Solution Intel Z170A LGA motherboard. I would like to know what would be the recommended steps before upgrading. Also after doing some research i've heard that upgrading your motherboard will require you to get a new windows version so i was also wondering what i do about that too

Thanks in advance!

Solution
for the most part it just involves detaching all the cables, removing your GPU and RAM, then removing the motherboard with a screwdriver.

you have to replace windows only if you have a OEM version, you can re-use a full retail version.

however, if you're upgrading to windows 10, yu an re-use ANY windows 7 code.

One last thing, I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10 with the whole upgrade for free deal. So do i enter in the same product key from my 8.1 copy for windows 10 installation?
