Okay, so I live in the middle of hillbilly country and we are extremely limited on Internet, the fastest speeds I get are 8.5down/.5up. I am in a family of four and I we all use the Internet throughout the day. Since I moved here I lag anytime I play any game, especially when someone is watching Netflix/YouTube videos. Is there a way I can get a better router that will limit how much we use because as soon as my sister turns on Netflix My speed goes down to .4down/.1up and my game is unplayable?

Solution
Well you have a couple of options depending on how much effort you want to put into it.

Standard consumer (not as good quicker easier though):

QoS (dynamically prioritizes traffic) : most all routers have this built in but the quality of it on consumer routers varies from router to router and is hopelessly broken on most.

Hard limits : Not all have this but some do. It will allow you to limit the bandwidth to each device to a max amount. Bit hamfisted though.

Prosumer (far more powerful but may take a bit of work):
Set up something like PfSense Sophos is an option as well on an old computer and use it to do the traffic shaping. Much better implement but will take a little bit more work to get running. You can also combine...
There is bandwidth managing software, but you either need a dual network MB, or a modem/router that has two network lines.

Some of such software costs money, but here are 5 open source ones that are free to use.

Also, to avoid conflicts within the house, you're probably going to have to have a family meeting on whom gets what amount of speed, and whether the ones getting the higher speed get it for what they pay, what chores they do, or just being older and/or needing it.

You will still ultimately be hamstrung by your internet speeds. If everyone tries to use it at the same time someone will run out of bandwidth. How you set up traffic shaping and limiters will determine who/what.

Well i think the best way to do this is buying a linksys router or a openwrt support router because openwrt frimware is a complete set of management systems come all together within a simple frimware for the router and when it comes to limiting traffic and speed you have lots of different setting for it.and with this system you don't need the computer do these stuff and being on 24/7.
And second choice is to get a dual band router, that way you get more bandwidth on each band so you could use the maximum speed at the same time as someone else is using the bandwidth.
Third choice and the best one is to get a dual band openwrt support router.
