I just put in two new ram sticks, and my pc won't turn on properly. I tried putting it in different slots and also switching back to the old ram stick, I even tried taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in, but nothing is working.

Hmm I myself installed some more RAM yesterday (I had 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance already in then I add another lot of 2x4GB so I now have 16GB)

You must be doing something wrong for this to of happened.

Could you list your specs? We mostly just need to know what motherboard you have so we can look into what RAM it supports and some other things.

Regards

That's a very good life span for a motherboard so far.
Could you take a look at the RAM inside your pc, looking for a company name that is hopefully the brand.
When installing RAM it is highly recommended that you install the same brand, MHZ speed, size and type (DRR3/4) of RAM otherwise your going to run in issues which you already have.

If you mixed new ram with ram you already had then that would be the problem, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. That's why they are sold in kits, mixing ram is never ideal. That or you received two DOA sticks.

Yes but now his old RAM won't work with the motherboard which is odd.

Well when a pc doesn't have RAM installed correctly the worst case scenario is that is burns out the slots and sometimes also the board.

Also what PSU do you have buddy?

Did something come unplugged while you were adding the new ram? It's easy to miss that sort of stuff. If it powers for a second and shuts back off it sounds like the cpu fan plug might have came loose

I would highly doubt that as the headers these days have bits that allow you to click the wires in securely so they don't come out.

Its worth a look I guess because if either the CPU or RAM are damaged or not plugged/installed correctly then the pc will not post.

I somehow got the original stick to work again, and tried switching around with different combinations. I got it booted with the 1866mhz sticks paired and the 600mhz unpaired. Is it because they all got downclocked to 600mhz, and if so, do i have to change bios to configure it to 1866mhz?

It's possible you could have dust build up in the slot itself so it doesn't make contact properly, the ram will run as fast as the slowest one, dual channel or single channel doesn't matter at that point
