I tested all my parts before hand on a test bench, the only thing that changed is that I removed the CPU to clean off some unwanted thermal compound and I installed the CPU cooler.

The Red CPU light is also on.

Spec list:

i7 6770K
ASUS Z170-Deuxe
GTX 1080 FE
16 GBs Corsair Dominator Platinum

A red Led light for the cpu on a Asus branded motherboard only means a few things.


1. The eight pin EPS 12v power connector from the PSU direct to the motherboard has not been connected.

2. The cpu is not seated right, or has been placed in the wrong orientation of the cpu socket.

3. The cpu cooler is not fitted properly to the Cpu, and the Cpu is reporting very high temperatures on initial power up of the system.

So power was cut to the cpu socket untill the cooling problem or the temps of the cpu are amended by re seating the cpu cooler so it make proper contact with the Cpu heat spreading plate of it.

4.And as a matter of practice if moved from a bread boarding and fitted to the case where the red light is lit for the cpu.

You may have to remove the motherboard from the mounting plate of the case and check for any short circuit on the back of the motherboard due to a stand off causing a short circuit, that is left in a position where the is no pass through whole used to secure the motherboard to the motherboard mounting plate of the case you have.


Now check all of the above.
Once you have checked all of the points above to take note of.
Reset the bios back to factory default mode via the motherboard bios jumper reset pins or reset button on the motherboard.

And test again.

The cause is out of the four stated above, being one of them causing the red light led for the cpu KaiWu19 ok.
