USB Flash Drive Write Speed Problem

Solution
Based on the CyrstalDiskMark scores for this flash drive I'm seeing on Amazon

Top read speed (sequential) is about 150 MB/s, but top write speed is closer to 80 MB/s.

4k speeds (speed at reading/writing really small files) is about 5 MB/s reads, 2.5 MB/s writes. That's not stellar, but is much better than the vast majority of flash drives out there (which can get as slow as 0.005 MB/s for 4k writes).

You should expect the top speeds (sequential) only when reading or writing large files like movies. Small files like Office documents will read/write closer to the 4k speeds. Medium-sized files like MP3s are usually in between those two speeds.

So the write speed in the video i uploaded is normal ?? I am uploading a movie in the video and at the beginning the file is being transferred with 90MB/s and at 30% of the process it goes down to 20MB/s and it stays there. Is that normal for a movie ?

Assuming you're equipped with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 @10 Gbps (SuperSpeed+) port, have you considered, or did you consider, purchasing a USB 3.1 flash drive?

I notice a number of those devices are coming on the market with a premium price of course. But they may be something to consider as long as you have the capability of supporting that interface.

We've been using a StarTech USB 3.1 "docking station" for the past couple of months and the speed differential between 3.1 & 3.0 is something to behold. Of course we've been using that device primarily with SSDs, but occasionally with a HDD as well.

We haven't as yet purchased a 3.1 flash drive but probably will in the near future.

I've been thinking of buying a 3.1 flash drive, but the prices are shameless :D . And at the end, is this normal for my flash drive to behave like in the video i uploaded (the link is above if you haven't seen yet) ?

I was unable to access your video. As I mentioned in my post I haven't as yet worked with a USB 3.1 (10 Gbps) flash drive, so I can't make any definitive statements involving that device's speed differential vis-a-vis a USB 3.0 flash drive. However if it's anything like the speed increase we've experienced with the StarTech USB 3.1 external enclosure I can guarantee you (and the PC community) will be mighty pleased.

But as you have indicated, the current crop of USB 3.1 flash drives are terribly expensive as compared with USB 3.0 flash drives. Hopefully they'll drop dramatically in price over the coming months.

Are you transferring from a hard drive? HDDs slow down to around 1 MB/s when transferring very small files, or if a large file is fragmented. The behavior you're seeing may be because the beginning of the video file is stored sequentially on the disk, but at about the 30% mark it's fragmented causing the HDD to slow down as it frantically moves the read/write heads back and forth as it tries to read small pieces of the video here and there.
