Missing Options in Nvidia Control Panel?

Hooked up my MSI laptop to my HDTV via HDMI...

Scaling was balls, so went into advanced settings for display, and manually set the scaling for my Intel HD Graphics. Started up the new DOOM, and black screen. Realized my actual GPU (not i-GPU) needs to be the display adapter. Am I right on this count?

So I started Nvidia Control Panel, and all I get the option for is '3D Settings' on the left. Nothing else. I thought there was at least a 'Display' option plus a few others?

I installed the laters Nvidia Drivers and did a clean install, but to no avail. Do I need to specifically reinstall Nvidia C.P., and not just update my drivers?

Running a 970m with Intel HD 5600 integrated graphics. If you need anything else to go on, please let me know. And no, I won't forget to award 'Best Answer.' I appreciate what you all do to help me. Thanks.

Can you try out other ports on the laptop? I'm not really sure about this but some ports are dedicated to the iGPU only, I've seen some weirdness like that happen before.

You can also try and mirroring the display on both, sometimes it forces windows to only use one of the graphics cards to output to the two of your devices.

My laptop has... 1 HDMI and 1 mini HDMI... No! Wow! It has a mini Display Port! I didn't even know that when I bought it. Geez!

Don't know if that solves anything, but, I need to go get a mini D.P. to HDMI cable, as my TV is a tad old and only has HDMI ports haha. By the way, will that work without throttling anything substantially? I'm basically clueless on cable speeds and compatibilities.

And is the mirroring thing just found by right clicking desktop and going into 'display settings?' If so, I kinda played with that myself, but didn't figure it would do anything. I'll check into it more.

Thanks for your help man!

Before buying anything, if you know your way around a computer, try uninstalling Intel GPU drivers or go to the BIOS if your laptop has the option and disable the iGPU, so the GTX 970M is assigned as your main and only GPU.

Part of the problem can be to do with windows it`s self, and the nvidia control panel software.

If you have the laptop connected via it`s Hdmi output to the LCD TV set to get a picture of a game when you launch it.

Because it is switching between the Intel solution to the Nvidia 970M graphics chip set to play games with.

You may have to set the display mode for the two display screens active, ie the laptops Lcd screen and the Tv connected via Hdmi lead to, a cloned screen image from the laptop to the Lcd tv display out put.

Make sure the mode for dual screens is not running in extended mode, make sure the setting is cloned of the first display the laptop lcd.

That way if the laptop switches from the Intel display solution to the 970M from Nvidia when you play a game Doom will them be displayed on the TV screen and you will not be met with a blank or black display ok.

As much as the settings in the Nvidia control panel .

You can set up screen cloning via any Intel based software application to extend the display to another connected monitor via the Hdmi output of the laptop, or choose to clone display one.

Windows also has this feature built in if using windows 7, 8 or 10 and can be accessed by right clicking on the desktop and going to screen settings options.

You check all three the Nvidia control panel, any Intel based video Display app installed and windows settings.

After the changes you should get a display image of doom on your LCD tv set one you run or launch it after the changes made Psychobagger ok.

Would disabling my iGPU affect anything negatively? Does it even get used, really? To be honest, I've never even opened a BIOS with my own hands, and I wouldn't know how to begin.

If Shaun's solution doesn't help, do try that.

Also, the way it works is that, in some laptops (yours is probably the case), Intel HD Graphics and Nvidia graphics are enabled one at the time depending on the different workloads of the computer, because Intel HD Graphics help with battery life, so when you're not gaming, the Nvidia graphics card is disabled, so by disabling the iGPU (Intel HD Graphics), the dedicated GPU (Nvidia GTX 970M) would the only option for your laptop to use, making it so any sort of weirdness that possibly happens from those setups, will stop happening.

You've already helped so much, but can you possibly point me in the direction of a post or site that can help me with getting into my laptop's BIOS? Thanks a ton!

Okay, I tried Shaun's. All I did was go into display settings and hit duplicate displays. Loaded Enter the Gungeon, a simple top-down, and it worked flawlessly. Loaded DOOM, and the picture was A-OK, but there was no sound... another issue.

Clicking 'extend these displays' in the settings was weird. It caused any tabs open to be invisible on the TV screen, while they were visible on the laptop.

Any help with the sound problem?
