I Currently own an Fx-8350 with some cheap msi 970a motherboard, and i am stuck on the decision of weather or not i should buy a top of the line gaming mother board for my 8350, or weather or not i should buy an I5-6600k and a top of the line gaming motherboard for that. My reason for wanting an I5, is that my 8350 gaming performance isn't exactly desirable, even though i have overclocked it to 4.6 GHz stable. I have seen multiple benchmarks of the I5 vs. the 8350 and all show a significant increase in gaming performance with the 6600k over the 8350. My final question is: Is the 6600k worth the extra 250 dollars, or should i buy a better mobo for the 8350 for 200 dollars?

Solution
If you're not happy with the performance of the 8350 now, a new motherboard isn't going to make much difference. It will still bottleneck the newest high end cards and there aren't really any upgrade options. You don't have to spend a fortune on an i5 and motherboard to get better gaming performance.

Think of the cost of the AMD motherboard as a discount when upgrading to an Intel platform. If you would have spent $100.00 dollars on an AMD board anyway, then you're really only paying an extra $150.00 dollars for the better performance, upgradability, and features that come with Skylake.

So, im either going to get a $200 mobo for the 8350 or get a $200 mobo and a $250 cpu and $30 ddr4 ram for the intel, my question is: is the extra money for the ram and the cpu worth it in the end or am i better off with the $200 8350 motherboard.
