New install of Windows 7 64 bit pro not updating. Help. I have tried most of what I can find on forums over the last 24 hours, to no avail. Dual core Athelon, 4 gig ram, HP a1730n, old hard drive died, replaced with Kingston 120 SSD. Been down the road of CR64, Windows Stand alone Installer just looks for updates. Machine has managed to find and install 15 updates. Been looking all night since, with Windows Update only running. Just sits there the the green bar going back and forth. This is a genuine, validated, install. Did the Fix it. Anything that involves a .wsu will just hunt for updates forever, which includes the KB3102810, KB3083710 and KB3050265 packages. Have not found an alternative free .wsu installer piece of software. Think there is something wrong with the Windows Stand alone Installer. Really, I have been working with this machine for about a week. Am considering buying a low end graphics card and just trying a clean install of 8.1 pro. I am a 25 year network admin veteran/MCSE/MSIS IT professional, but this machine is making me into a idiot. Anyone need a good free doorstop? This is my fiancé's machine and I am trying to save her money, you know how that is.
