Thanks for reading and maybe responding! :D

Oh, and please don't respond about the case or motherboard, because i want something that at least AT LEAST BARELY resembles the dell studio xps 9000/435t. And i have reason to believe that that is true with what i have chosen.

Solution
It is a great card, just at the end of its cycle. It is more than capable of gaming quite well at 1080p or 1440p, but for the 500+ dollars it costs simply waiting a couple of weeks for something with double the performance for the same cost seems like the right move.
Your build is reasonable and will work.
But, I have some thoughts:

1. With skylake available, I see no reason not to use current gen parts.
That would be a i7-6700K, a Z170 motherboard, and ddr4 ram(1.2v, 2400 speed).

2. The spec-02 cases are nice, but they have limited height available for coolers. I suggest an equally good and well priced cryorig H7 which is only 145mm tall.

3. The particular evga nex may be a tier 3 or 4 unit on this quality list:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
650w is appropriate, but buy a tier 1 or 2 unit like Seasonic.
I see little value in modular in a decent case like your's.

4. Motherboard on board 8.1 HD sound is very good; I might defer on the sound card.

5. 120gb is too small for windows, it will fill up quickly losing performance and endurance. 240gb at least.
I would also stick with Samsung or Intel for ssd, they have better controllers and nand quality.

6. You can do better on the hard drive. Seagate is not tops in reliability; look at WD red.

7. GTX980 is a very good card. But, it has been in a price limbo between GTX970 and GTX980ti.
I think, the newly announced GTX1070 would be better if you can avoid the inevitable early adopter price gouging.

I personally wouldn't buy a 980 at this point in their life cycle. Though the card is quite good, you are a few days at this point away from 1070 availability, which will cost less and perform better.

Well, where i want to get the graphics card (Best Buy) it isn't available right now. Plus, my friend does the exact same thing as me (gaming, recording, rendering) and he has the GTX 960. So i think the GTX 980 is a good card.
