AMD CPU overheating problem

It's been a while since I've been having overheating problem when gaming. I can play and temps go from 50°C (122 °F) to 60°C (°140), but when I try to do something else then everything goes wrong. Temps go to 71+°C (159.8 °F) and system shuts down. I didn't have this problem before. I already tried changing thermal paste about three times with no luck at all. I have an AMD 8150 Eight core. And have a Cooler Master Hyper 612 PWM as a cooler.

What can I do to get my temps get back to how they used to be? I didn't have that problem before. Could the GPU have something to do? I have a GeForce GTX 560 SE.

My normal temps are 30 °C (86 °F) or so, they never go down. Should they be less than that?

No, there is no way to "fix" a bad thermal reading. If a thermal sensor has failed then the motherboard would need to be replaced.

Where are you getting your readings from? Download HWinfo, install it and run "sensors only", and take a screenshot of the thermal readings while doing whatever it is you normally do that triggers the thermal issue. Post the screenshot here.
Sounds to me like either the fan is facing the wrong way, not running or the heatsink is either not fully seated or one of the corners/sides is not seated at all. Either that or you have a faulty thermal sensor detecting incorrect thermal readings, which is not entirely unheard of on AMD systems.

Could also be that you do not have enough case cooling to provide the CPU cooler with fresh ambient air.

Does it do this even if you run it with the side panel off?

Honestly the most likely cause is that the heatsink is not seated correctly or at all on one of the fasteners.

While CPU failure is VERY uncommon, that's possible as well. More likely would be a motherboard issue and a faulty sensor.

My case isn't entirely closed. One side is open, always, so I don't think that's the problem. I've tried placing three times already the heatsink but the temps are always the same. Is there any way to fix the problem of thermal reading, if that were the case?

I think I found the problem. The thermal paste wasn't working. I just used a different kind and the temps seem to be all better. Thank you very much!
