Hi guys, so I live at this apartment building, where at the ground floor they have this business center and an open Wi-Fi for all residents to connect. When you use their provided computers, you can access any and all sites with no restrictions.

I tried unplugging their LAN cables and plugging it in on my own laptop or using their wifi, I was only able to access Google.com and Youtube.com. When I try going on other sites, it will say the DNS is not responding or something of that sorts. Keep in in mind I use Google DNS servers. Also their computers are locked in settings and require administrator password so I am not able to find out what they are doing with the computer. Does anybody know how do they do this ? I'm not trying to do anything illegal with their internet I'm just very curious as to how their provided computers can surf all sites but I'm restricted when I use my own.

Thank you !

There are many ways to accomplish this so you would have to do more digging. If they are using a dns interceptor it does not matter what dns server you think you are using.

You would have to mess with commands like nslookup and ping by name and then ip to see what they are up to.

Since the business allows residents to connect, couldn't you just ask them about the problem you're experiencing and have them help resolve it?

Do you mind elaborating more on this ? I'd like to probe around to see if they are doing it intentionally or if it's just a problem I'm having. Appreciate any and all help !
