Hi guys,
New rig, (occasional gaming, primarily for 3D modeling and unity light maps - both CPU dependent for my particular workflow) I have been looking at the entry level Broadwell 6800k but also want to know if the Xeon E5-2630v4 would be better for similar price (considering the additional price of a decent loop system to OC the Broadwell).

- Xeon has 40 PCI lanes - (I dont need), and importantly 4 more cores but they are significantly slower and cant be OC like the i7. It will be $190 or so more but that is negligible if it is reasonably better. Will it be better?
- i7 can run the 2400 ram, xeon only 2133. Does this matter significantly?
- Other considerations? or different choices all together?

Thing is I have no idea which one will perform better for my purposes - could somebody let me know of any comparisons or which benchmarks I should be looking at? (or if there is another processor I should be considering). Much appreciated - I know very little about this.

(I do a lot of 3D modeling (Zbrush - still CPU dependent and looking to remain so sadly into the future) and light map baking in Unity. - Currently I have to wait for ages with some of this, or it just times out completely)

You are looking at mostly CPU-limited applications. for this Passmark is very helpful.

This chart shows :

Xeon E5-2630v4 = 14708 @ 2.2Ghz
i7 6800K = 13,555 @ 3.4 Ghz.

Overclocked to 4.0Ghz, it will surpass the Xeon, and be better for gaming. https://cpubenchmark.net/overclocked_cpus.html

Memory speed will not matter that much, but maybe 2-5% difference is significant to you.

The 6800K is a capable chip, but it is so new, I would prefer to wait a stepping or two to improve my changes in the Silicon Lottery.

Look at the figures in that chart and see. Even the older and cheaper 5820K will perform very well and overclock better

Since I m uncertain as to your location, I cannot make recommendations based on cost/benefit.
