Hi all,

For a little while now, when playing games, my computer will randomly restart. Leaving me with no logs of information I can give you. However, I have conducted some research and decided to run Furmark stress test while keeping an eye on my temperatures on HWMonitor. My results were as follows: https://gyazo.com/a0c58136c0f3ced5544cad912c408277

My CPU Core temperatures reached up to 100° so I believe this is the issue and my CPU is overheating while playing games? However I'm not sure what to now do. Some friends have recommended buying a premium heat sink but I don't want to go ahead and buy one when it is the CPU at fault. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Solution
"CPU Upgrade" looks as if it could be a likely culprit.

The voltage option you might choose to play with is "CPU Vcore offset". It will probably be grayed-out until you change "CPU Vcore" from "Auto" to "Offset".
100c will cause your CPU to throttle. Are you using the integrated GPU on your 4790K?

It appears your motherboard is automatically overclocking your chip, which would result in this kind of behavior with the stock cooler. 4-core turbo should only be 4200mhz, while yours is running at 4400, and 1.374v is dangerously high for that CPU. Ideally, you want to keep it under 1.30v.

I'd recommend going into bios and disabling "multicore enhancement" or whatever equivalent feature is causing the auto-overclock, and maybe consider setting a negative offset on your voltage too, to bring it back to reasonable levels.

What board are you running?

Hi Ecky, thank you so much for your response.

I don't believe I'm using my integrated graphics as I have a nvidia GTX 780. I believe my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H, one of the "ultra durable" ones. I purchased the computer pre-built a couple of years ago now so I'm not sure if any adjustments were made prior to it being sent.

I've took some pictures of the voltages below and the options I have available to me:

As for the multicore enhancement option, could it possibly be "Performance Upgrade" or "CPU Upgrade" options I see here?

Once again, thank you so much for taking your time to help me. I really appreciate it!
