Hi all. Could you please help me for the following:
I had 2 Windows XP PCs connected via a workgroup. I added a new PC running Windows 8.2, soon upgraded to Windows 10. All 3 PCs coudl share files and printers without trouble. I recently added a 4th PC, running Windows 10 as well. And it does not work anymore. Each Windows 10 PC can access any other PC of the little network but the XP PC's do not "see" the Windows 10 ones. It is not a workgroup problem, nor a file sharing problem.
I found someone on the net who had had similar problems and talked about modifying the firewall rules to have all connection to port 139 blocked. I believe there is some competition between port 445 and port 139. But I do not understand very much what is meant here. If someone could help, I would be grateful. Thank you very much !!! France

Hi Emerald. Yes, this is actually the answer I had found. Bottomline, kd833 explains that disabling port 139 on his Win 10 machine resolved the problem and allowed for file sharing between his XP and Win 10 machines. I am totally unfamiliar with port opening/disabling and I am unsure about a possible maximum connections (I have 2 XP and 2 Win 10 machines). I will try to find my way on how to disable ports on Win 10 machines. At this point, I have no clue what it means and how to proceed :). France

OK, I found the way to enable/disable ports in the Win 10 firewall. I disabled port 139. No change. I mean I still do not see (in My Network Places) my Win 10 machine from the XP machine. Don't know what to do next...
Thanks anyway for having looked at my request. France.
