PSU or motherboard failing?

Hello there

I've been having trouble figuring out the odd patterns of behaviour my pc has been showing me over the years.

The computer seems to be having trouble booting from time to time, but once it runs it runs mostly stable without any blue screens of death. Mostly means, that sometimes network-related components fail. The onboard networkadapter on the mobo (gigabyte E58-UP4D rev1) has been long dead, and i'm running a PCI board aswell as a wireless USB adapter from time to time, both of which can fail randomly, requiring reboot.

Sometimes when i try to boot, it just spins up discs and fans. Lights are on. I've tried removing all components except CPU and i can't get the mobo to beep at all (maybe it doesn't have a speaker, manual is of no help). And then after waiting, it is able to boot again (really random). Sometimes it hangs a bit before booting, but mostly waiting for a boot does nothing.

I have yet to find a stable pattern of succes booting, which means that clearing the CMOS seems to help sometimes, but mostly not.

I can play games, heavy games, without much trouble, once it runs. Meaning that the network adapter might die. I've tried switching adapters, and this doesn't resolve anything.

What are your thoughts?

Everything in the pc except GPU and cooling unit is about 10 years old.

That line in itself is an ominous indication that your system is trying to give up the ghost. I would however ask you to provide a full system's specs inclusive of your OS and connected peripherals in situations like these when we have to deal with troubleshooting threads.

It could be anywhere between the soldeirng contacts failing, the compoenentry on your motherboard failing to the system being unable to power up or it can even be that the PSU is failing. There are too many factors to count and that makes it even more harder when we are fed little to no information. The system's specs will clear up some of the issues while some of the issues will come about...

Is this your board?
