Hey everyone, thought I'd post some pictures of my first PC build.

I did have troubles getting it to start up at first, but figured out I had my case fans plugged in in two places (mobo and PSU). Once I got this taken care of, everything booted up as planned and I installed Windows 10 from USB. I went for a red/black theme with white accents. Eventually I want to add some more white as the only white part is the H7 fan as of now. I'm thinking of doing sleeved cable extensions and maybe custom painting the graphics card when it becomes available.

I'll be going with GEFORCE® GTX 1080 GAMING X 8G as I've heard good things about it and it should fit my color scheme wonderfully. Most of my budget is spent and the 1080 will be a birthday gift (hopefully). SSD will have to come later on.

I do have a few questions I'd like input on.

1) My CPU (6700k) is OC'd to 4.5Ghz @ 1.365V. IntelBurnTest crashes if I lower the voltage anymore. Did I just get unlucky in the silicone lottery? I've heard a lot of people getting to 4.7-4.8 easily. I don't really want to go much more than 1.365V as max temps reached 78C during stress testing. Next thing I'll be OC'ing is RAM as I bought 3200 sticks but they're only running at 2133 I believe. Still have some learning to do on this.

2) Any input or ideas on adding more white to the scheme?

3) Looking for 1440p or 4K gaming monitor eventually. Would love suggestions. $300 is my budget for monitor.

Thanks for looking!

thanks for input guys. I've OC'd the CPU to 4.5 for now.

Today I tried overclockign the RAM and when I put it to 3200, the screen would flicker. I lowered it to 3000 and the same thing. Does anyone know what could be causing this? My ram is Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200. I used 16-18-18-36 and 1.35V. I lowered it back to 2133 (stock) and everything seems to be operating fine. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

Try to get the most speed out of 1.2V because 1.35V can kill the CPU.

I'd try a speed of 2800 @ 1.2V with CAS 16-16-16-36 first. If the screen doesn't flicker run prime95 and see if it remains stable.

Pawacorn,
Appreciate the response. You mention 1.35V can kill the CPU. I thought I was reading around and some people run their CPU's up to 1.4V? I figured 1.365 would be safe for everyday use as I didn't get temps above 80c during IntelBurnTest.

I've tried OC'ing my RAM using the numbers you provided and had flickering during Prime95, although not nearly as bad as before. I'm kind of confused. Is it normal for a 3200Mhz RAM to not be able to OC'ed to 3200Mhz? Is it normal to get screen flicker while OC'ing RAM? I feel like I'm doing something wrong. The motherboard is compatible with 3200Mhz RAM. Once again, this is my first PC build hopefully these aren't stupid question.

He was saying running your ram over 1.2v is bad for your CPU not talking about your CPU voltage, probably just rolled snake eyes as far as CPU frequency is concerned. You're trying to run ddr4 ram at ddr3 voltage for some reason that's why it's unstable.

Brownrecluse27,
Thanks for the response. I tried using the XMP profile to no avail. Also, I've reloaded the Bios and tried again and still didn't have any luck. Do you think I should take out one of my RAM sticks and try OC'ing to 3200 with just one unit? That way I can single out if there is one bad stick or something. I'd be really interested in hearing any possible solutions. Thanks again for all your help.
