Would it be better to upgrade my i5 2400 and get a gtx 1070 rather than keep the i5 2400 and get a gtx 1080. I'm looking to play games such as Just Cause 3, Battlefield 4, Rust and H1Z1 (and League of Legends but anything can run that). I want to upgrade to a 144 Hz monitor as well as people say it is a huge improvement over 60 Hz. Which upgrade would give me the most FPS in the games I want to play?

Solution
It won't be severe, but it may be noticeable. A 1070 would be a better match. At 1080p or 1440p a 1070 can handle everything on ultra. It would still be worth getting a G-Sync monitor.

It's mostly a matter of budget.
If you're going to upgrade your processor, you might as well upgrade to a newer socket motherboard and get a newer CPU.
FPS is independent of the monitor. A 144 MHz monitor with Nvidia G-Sync will result in a smoother picture regardless of frame rates, as the monitor intelligently refreshes according to current frame rates.

I guess my question really is how badly will the i5-2400 bottlneck a gtx 1080? I would rather not have to upgrade my CPU as well as that will almost double the cost and I don't want to pay that kind of money if the performance increase won't be that huge.
