Hey guys,

I'm planning on building a mid range gaming comp with an i5 6600k cpu. But anyway I still have a healthy e8400 cpu that just needs a new motherboard. Do you think it's worth doing anything with the cpu or just let it rest in peace? I don't do video editing and mainly gaming. Just wanted to get ideas on if there are any possible usages in bringing this dead technology back to life.

Thanks

Just pick up a USB adapter and you won't even need to replace the motherboard...
It does pretty decent for more basic tasks, even some older games. However if it means making major investments to use it you may be better off selling it (something is better than nothing). I had mine overclocked on a gigabyte p45 board to 3.6ghz and it did fairly well on games like halo, cod ghosts, farcry, crysis etc. It was a bit of a bottleneck for an hd7850 but still managed to keep up around 60fps in those games.

If you need ddr2, the motherboard and a case and other parts to get it running it may not be worth the investment.

Yea I might just change out the motherboard and give it to my dad. He just surfs the net and does office work on it. Just needs a new motherboard since the cat5 on the I/o stop working for some reason. It boots and everything. Just can't connect to the Internet
