M848 pc chips MB 2600amd cpu 2 512 DDR400 2floppy drives 2 cdrw/dvdrw 2 mobileracks a raid card quad sound card and a ddr2 8x ati graphics card (new) and my bios wont display except for twice when I fiddled with the ram and the cmos battery I replaced it and when it did display there was an error message that the bios was too small how can I get the monitor to display an image again what am I missing I have switched the ram and the graphics card disconnected everything fan run when you power on lights come on did notice the cdrw draw opening a couple of times. I've tried 3 other mainboadrs thadt do exactly same thing when I put the cpu in another board with some ram in it any suggestions. if you have an idea whats going on. I've tried cleaning the contacts on the card ram and in the slots I have a fiberglass contact cleaner and a biro rubber for cleaning Computer has been like this for about 5 years and I decided to get it running again as I need it to open my honey moon photos that I need win 98 to open so can you help or think of anything I am using early flat screen monitors I just don't get it unless the DDR2 card is wrong for the DDR400 MB. I lost a lot of files on a damaged HDD and recently got it going I backed up alot of stuff on this drive and I gotta open them now and I need this computer going again.

One thing I notice is when I hit the reset button the fan keeps spinning at the same flat out speed most machines have a bit of a hiccup when you hit reset this is the only clue I have.

As I said in the above post I tried the hardware in my computer on a number of other pieces of hardware and I suggested faulty ram the ram was faulty but a consequence of having bad ram is that the bios in most of the motherboards is stuffed I can boot and reboot at 1100 speed x 11 but at 2200 x 11 the propper speed for a 3200 processor the MB won't reboot untill power has been removed from the MB completely so I guess I will have to talk wit Asus about getting the bios's fixed in my asus boards and I got a new pc chips board coming so I will need some good NEW ram not sh from a dodgey ebay seller. Unless someone has a diffeent view I am guess ing this is the situation as I've never had this situation before.

Problem Solved I think and this is really embaracing, I don't know if I should even dob myself in well here goes, you know how often the cpu is tucked up near the psu and its easier to put the fan on when using the screw driver on the opposite side of the fan to the psu well thats my problem you see you all know and are ROTFLYBO because I've been putting the fan on the wrong way around and frying my CPU's yep looks like I might have a stash of good motherboards But wait one moment please to my defense I will throw in the fact that while studing computers at Tafe in 2000 I had a stroke during the database class and these computers were built or upgrades about 3-4 years later now please bear in mind the fact my doctor didn't discover the stroke till 2008 even though at the time I knew myself what was going on and traeated myself with aspro clear for most of those 8 years. So there I'm pretty stupid and I was told about having the fan around the correct way before I got crook so I am on my last amd cpu and its not really that great so I'll let these others cool down and I will sus them out tomorrow. P.S. I have turned the clip around on the fan so access is still easy and the cpu fan is the correct way around. How many of you other dudes have done the same thing..........

Also a ide raid card seems to have developed a problem or is conflicting with the video card. The Chinese ddr2 graphics card I got on ebay for 29.00 was also not working and ah heck I got two of them but lets not be hasty as some of these cards require the vga drivers that come with the motherboard to be installed first so the software can talk to the vga software that is first installed on the board but that is old school stuff and this is a win98 puter and its running like a raging bull now banging its head against the old modem ports unable to find its way out into the world. Now does anyone know of an internet browser that will run with the first win98 software I wouldn't mind trying an old firefox browser say version 12 or 13 might do the trick I have version 2 on it and its just crashing and so is explorer 5.5 and netscape 7 is also banging it head against the box. I want a browser for win98 if anyone has one that will work.

I also had an Issue with partition magic stopping working after I installed firefox 4.7 so I uninstalled it and put version 4.3 back on didn't fix the issue but when I put the hdd into my old 98 Beast the partition Magic worked fine so I see many post about this and I reckon its the device drivers conflicting with the software which makes alot of sense as Partion magic is a hardware tool. So its not the spi or 2 or 2 etc. Anyone got an old version 12-13 firefox browser I could try on my win98 as I would love to get it running on broadband just to see how fast she can really fly seen a few blue screens today and boy how much have I missed gazing into the old defragmenter counting those squares. Incase you don't realise it win98 is very fast as its very light and when its being pushed along with a 3.2gig processor and remember the origional operating system was under 100mb less than Power2Go.
