UPDATE: Just to see what would happen, I plugged a Store n Go Flash Drive into one of the USB3.0 and loaded up the bios to see if I could save my bios file to it, and what do you know, it work, filed saved and everything. Also, when looking at the board explorer and hovering over the USB ports I KNOW I have stuff plugged into (like the flash drive and k/b and mouse), it says it's empty. Not sure if that would help.

Hi,

I've been searching for a solution to this frustrating issue for about a week now.

Here's the issue:

I had bought a new MSI Z87-GD65 for my secondary rig. Built the system up, installed windows, all the usual. Nothing went wrong during the install. (Not my first time building a computer :) ).

Anyway, the system booted great, installed all the drivers, ran windows update successfully, the whole shebang.

During all this, my keyboard and mouse are plugged into the two top USB2.0 ports. Works great.

But, none of the other ports work. Not even for the keyboard and mouse. I tried plugging in an external hard drive, a flash drive, my phone, nothing reads. UNTIL I RESTART, after which any drive currently plugged into any of the ports will read for a few minutes. Then it would disconnect and tell me that the USB Device was not recognized.

Even if I try plugging a drive into a USB2.0 port (where the keyboard or mouse is), it wouldn't read. Also, keyboard or mouse won't work when it's plugged into one of the USB3.0 ports.

What could this be? A faulty mobo?

Thank you.

PS: here's the system specs:

i7 4770K 4.0GHz
16 GB 1600MHz RAM
MSI z87-GD65 Mobo
600W CM PSU
Sapphire Radeon R9 280X
128GB Boot SSD
1TB Addition Storage
Standard Logitech USB Keyboard and mouse

1| You've generically stated a 600W Coolermaster PSU, is it possible to state the series?
2| You've also forgotten to mention the OS though from the looks of things, it seems like you're on Windows 10. If so then you should disable automatic device driver updates and manually install drivers found off manufacturer's support site.
3| You should also make sure your BIOS is up to date.
4| Under Windows 7's drop down menu when choosing OS and architecture, download the drivers meant for USB3.0 and install them in compatibility mode:
Right Click Installer>Properties>Compatibility Tab>Windows 7 [from drop down menu]
^ Provided you're on Windows 10.
