The Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is being used in games instead of my gtx 960m even though i have updated everything to the latest bios and my graphics card to the latest drivers. I have set everything in the nvidia control panel to the High performance Nvidia Graphics Card and it still doesn't work. Intel Hd Graphics display drivers are not installed due to when they are enabled, they turn my display off. The laptop motherboard is a w230SD

Solution
Well it has to be a hardware issue here then.
It does the same on the power adapter and on battery I assume? If it works on battery then your power supply needs replacing.
It's not likely to be RAM, but it's worth testing that with memtest86 overnight.
The most difficult piece to replace, besides the whole motherboard, is the CPU. Since that has the Intel HD graphics built into it that was having troubles before, the problem could be here.
If your computer has a removable GPU, you can try swapping that unit out as well.

Side note: I much prefer diagnosing hardware over software. It's much more systematic, with less things that can be wrong.

I installed the drivers, but they did the same thing that they always have. I have to install them in safe mode and disable them, otherwise(when im not in safe mode) my display will not turn on. And just like it was before, when intel hd graphics is installed, it makes it to where my nvidia control panel cannot be accessed (the error that says: Nvidia Display settings are not available. You are currently not using a display attached to a Nvidia GPU). Oh, and just to clarify, there is no option for discrete gpu in my motherboard settings. Got any ideas?

For both Nvidia and Intel? Well, alright. Moving right along.
Try a clean install of your OS. You can make an image of the drive and save it to a backup to restore later.
If that still doesn't work, then it's hardware. That's usually the point where you start swapping components, but that's a bit harder in a laptop.

I have found the solution. I got another processor from one of these laptops from work. It was the same processor and the same socket type. I put it in this laptop and it solved all of the problems. For the W230SD, all it needed was a new processor. How was the processor the problem? Heck if I know. Thanks for all of the help!
