That is the link to my current PC with the addition of the GTX 1080. I will list below also but PCPartPicker is not showing compatibility issues. I would welcome any thoughts or advice as I am about ready to upgrade to a new card. My current PC is my first build so I have no experience upgrading the GPU.

Intel i5-3570k
ASRock Z77 Extreme4
Hyper 212 EVO cooler
Rosewill Mid-Tower case
Rosewill 650W (non-modular) 80Plus Gold PSU
1 TB HDD, 320 GB HDD, 120 GB SSD (system)
Mushkin Blackline 16 GB RAM (2x8)
Windows 10

I have some fans in the case too.

Thanks!

In the UK I've been told by sources that the 3rd 1070's will drop in between £320-390 on release.
Here the current cheapest 1080 3rd party model is sitting at £540.

A big big price difference, how it translates across the pond is a guess but I reckon itll be a pretty similar difference percentage wise.

I went from a 280x to a 970 & saw a big difference, a 7950 to a 1070 is another 30-40% performance gain over what I experienced.
I think the GTX 1080 would be fine by itself for a upgrade for your gaming PC. Even if you went w/ an i7 6700k Skylake setup, you'd gain some FPS in a few games, but probably not enough to justify the cost. Are you running your 3570k OC'd at all? If so, it's not worth upgrading your other components.

I do OC my CPU to 4.2. So no need to upgrade that by your estimation?

I currently do not use a monitor. I use my LG OLED Tv for gaming. Never had a dedicated monitor but have had my eye on a few. I use HDMI for the video.

Thanks for the input! I was worried I would NEED to upgrade some other components.

That is something I was considering as well, but have only read up on the 1080 not the 1070. Was thinking if the price point in two months is not vastly different I will just go for quality to future-proof it more so to speak. My Radeon HD7950 isn't too shabby but I like playing games on ultra settings and have been looking at monitors for higher resolutions.

The best choice is ultimately going to be determined by the display resolution and the depth of your pockets ;) the CPU/MB/RAM are fine.

Check out reviews on both the GTX1080 and 1070, and bear in mind, there will be a significant price difference between them.

I suggest you look long and hard at the monitor first, neither card is going to get old any time soon and the new adopters will almost certainly sell out what stock arrives at full retail/over retail prices anyway so it'll probably be a month, or more, before you can get one anyway. This is probably the more important decision, odds are you'll keep a good display long after the PC has bitten the dust.

LG make quite a few OLED TVs, including some stunning 4K ones, what are the specs of the current one? You may just need to swap a cable and adjust the TV settings top turn it into a truly fantastic 4K monitor!

My TV is the LG ec9300 OLED. 1080p only. I wasn't concerned with 4K at the time since LG didn't have any 4KOLEDs anywhere near my price point.

Just checking.

When they become available the GTX1070 is going to be fine up to 1440 res and 60Hz, even in the most demanding games it can maintain that sacred 60FPS at 1440 rez. If you want to push the rez to 4K or the refresh over 60Hz then look to the GTX1080.
