i have an old phenom 2 be555.
recently my motherboard stopped working and i had to send it for repair.. the local repair person told me that the ic on the board is getting blown because of the processor being faulty. after he replaces the ic/capacitor it blows again if he trys to run it with my phenom 2. and thus i was made to buy a 2nd hand athlon 2 from him. he did return my processor. is it possible that a processor can be responsible for a blown ic or capacitor on the board? can i go ahead and try out my phenom without any risk to the board (ga-ma785gmt-usb3,o)?

If the tech says the power IC's are blowing because there is an issue with the CPU, and it is NOT doing it now with a different CPU, then I'd say he's correct and there is an issue with this CPU, despite the fact that actual CPU failures are highly uncommon. However uncommon it may be, they do, upon occasion, happen.

Age, overheating, physical damage, anything could be the cause but I wouldn't want to try it in your already repaired board. If you want to try and find another cheap used replacement to try it in, that might be the way to go, but I wouldn't stick it back in a system that is now working until you know for sure the CPU is ok or not.
