I got a:
Asrock B95M DGS
GTX 970
i5 4440
8gb ddr3

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU, and my memory to 16gb of something faster than the 666hz i currently have.

I'm just not sure if i should upgrade my motherboard to a newer socket, or should i stay with the current one, and if i do, should i upgrade it to a better one with the same socket ?

Basically most of my needs from my PC are gaming. I do a little bit of work on it, and would love it to be a bit faster, hence upgrading my CPU and memory, but not too much. So i don't want to spend that much on it.

The memory upgrade wont really be an upgrade. Yes its DDR4, but you wont see any real difference in games.
Again, I cannot justify spending all that money on a new mobo, RAM and CPU, since there wont be much performance gain in games (in some there will be no difference).

Still, if thats what you want its fine.
The Asus H110? Which one you are aiming...

Ok, first of all your memory isnt 666MHZ its 1333MHZ. Its DDR, so the rate is doubled.

Now to address your question, it really depends on what work you do. The are applications that will benefit from an i7's 4 cores/8 threads, so maybe an upgrade is warranted. Some games will take advantage of the extra threads, but most games will be fine with your i5.
You said most of your needs are gaming-related, so a graphics card is better investment than to get a whole mobo+CPU set.
Going from Haswell to Skylake wont really pay off, you're better off investing in graphics processing power, and wait for the next architecture from Intel (7th gen).
Do keep in mind that going to a Skylake platform will mean new Ram as well (DDR4).

Your motherboard seems poor, only has the basics on it, so I wouldnt get a K-processor with it, nor would I install many components on it. Still, a motherboard doesnt really affect performance if we are talking about running at stock.

My suggestion:
- Either get a GTX 1070 or 1080, and keep everything else as it is
OR
- Get a Haswell i7 and again keep everything else as it is

Or...both, you know?

I just cannot suggest that you waste all that money on getting a new mobo and CPU, it isnt really worth it.

Thing is, i don't want to upgrade my GPU yet, maybe only in the next gen. It still does well for me.
for now i just want to upgrade my CPU. Memory...and i thought, as i already upgrading both, if it's worth it to pay the extra bucks for a new mobo.
I thought maybe about the Asus H110, which doesn't cost much.

If i do upgrade to Skylake, which would you recommend on going with ?

The Asus H110? Which one you are aiming for though?
The H110-PLUS for example is a basic motherboard with the all the necessities on it, but nothing really special.
What is your budget on this, and what are your needs? Clearly you are not interested in SLI, so you wont need 2 PCI express for example.

A good high-end motherboard will allow for overclocking, if you are going for a K-series CPU. Is that what you want?

Anyway, I'd suggest the i7 6700 (what else), either the K or the non-K version, depending on if you plan to overclock, what mobo you are going to get, what CPU cooler you've got, etc.

I'd suggest an H170 mobo, but again I dont know what your budget is.
