Hello all, I have a troubleshooting issue that I can't figure out.

I have a Windows 10 desktop computer with two SSDs and a 4tb hard drive I just bought a month ago. In the past week, I've encountered a problem several times where I'm playing a game on the 4tb hard drive, and it either crashes on startup or on exiting the game. When I look at My Computer after the game crashes, the 4tb hard drive has disappeared. It's just the two SSDs listed. I restart my computer when I see this, and then Windows 10 sits on the loading screen forever. I restart the computer again, Windows 10 goes into Repair and Diagnostics, and determines that it didn't restart properly and needs to Restart. I press the Restart button, and then everything boots up fine and the hard drive is back on My Computer in Windows 10.

Next time I play a game located on that hard drive, chances are I'll go through this process all over again. What gives?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there, FreyjasChosen.

It's not uncommon for a faulty drive to be causing issue with the healthy ones (e.g. like booting problems in your case). I'd recommend that you backup all of the important data you might have on that HDD, just to be on the safe side. After that go ahead and download its manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run the tests on the drive, to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up. You could also give it a try with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the problem still persists.

Please let me know how everything goes.
