Dear Friends:
I´m looking forward to upgrading my old Radeon 5770. I have read a lot of articles, but this page made some serious warning:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-upgrades/how-upgrade-your-graphics-card-3470162/

“Warning: Even if a graphics card will physically fit and your power supply has enough power (and the right connectors), it may not work. Certain PC vendors including Dell, HP and Acer use custom-designed motherboards. A little like mobile operators do with smartphones, they lock them down so you can't fit different components such as a graphics card (or a SIM from another provider in the case of a phone). So, be sure to ask your PC manufacturer whether your intended graphics card is supported. Some readers have found that a locked-down BIOS means that even though the fans will spin up on a new graphics card, nothing will appear on the screen.”

I know there´s an article just like this one, but I am no expert on the subject. And I seem to miss the specific information that I need in order to make the right choice.

The question I have is: Will my motherboard be able to run a GTX 960?
T
his is the link to the other question:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2942821/dell-studio-xps-7100-video-upgrade.html
And the answer says this:

“A couple have a switch to change between UEFI and legacy BIOS. This GTX 750 Ti is one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
A few will auto switch when it detects the board's BIOS. But I don't know which ones those are. Almost all modern cards today have a UEFI BIOS, and most are compatible with older legacy board's BIOSs. But of course, not all.
I have a 775 socket board similar to yours that refuses to work with an AMD R7-370, yet has no problem with a GTX 750 Ti or a GTX 960 (all 3 cards have UEFI BIOS).”

I haven´t the slightest idea as to what does that means, and looking on the web only made the subject more complicated. Please help me with this problem, I would appreciate it very much.

Please let me know of any other information needed, and thank you very much for your help.

Your best bet in this case is actually to head over to the Dell forums and see if anyone else has done what you are trying to do. They actually have a very lively community over there and you will likely find that somebody has the same PC as you and tried the same GPU.

Many times it comes down to a BIOS issue with Dells and others, and they don't often update the BIOSes on them because they only offer certain configurations anyway (and don't care about you upgrading).

I would say its very likely that it will work, but the Dell forums can confirm it.
