Hi,
In my system I have an i7-4790k at stock speed that is cooled by an h80i gt. When I use Open Hardware Monitor, I see idle temperatures around 32-36 degrees. But when I stress the CPU using AIDA64, the temperatures rocket to ~70 degrees. In AIDA64, if I check the box of "Stress FPU" and un-check all the others, it shows CPU Is Throttling - Overheating Detected and the temperature hits at a whopping 100 degrees. I've tried many times to replace the thermal compound with different techniques but nothing seems to be working. Even though in AIDA64 the CPU temperature is 70 when I stress the CPU, when I'm in a game(H1Z1), I alt tab and I can see in Open Hardware Monitor that the CPU temps max is ~80 and the h80i gt corsair logo turns red(later noticed).

I believe these temperatures aren't safe nor good. Should I be concerned? I'm not quite sure if it's a software problem, hardware problem, liquid cooler problem, or case air flow problem.

Core i 2nd through 6th Generation CPU's have AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) instruction sets. Recent versions of Prime95 such as 28.9 run AVX code on the Floating Point Unit (FPU) math coprocessor, which produces unrealistically high temperatures. The FPU test in the utility AIDA64 shows similar results.

I stress my CPU using AIDA64 but I only tick the "Stress CPU" box and not the "Stress FPU" as that will throttles my cpu and shows overheating detected at 100degrees.

It's true I won't reach those under normal use such as browsing or normal desktop use, but under gaming the CPU runs around about ~70 degrees I have to say. With a max of 80.
