I havea VoIP phone and need to setup the QOS in the Smart RG sr505N. What do I enter for the minimum rate, the shaping rate and the Shaping burst size? PLEASE HELP!~~

Solution
I would be surprised to see a consumer router that has burst and shape rates for a QoS stream. Make sure you are not looking at the DSL wan connection since those values you would have to ask your ISP.

The rates on a VoIP call are extremely consistent. You will get almost no variations or burst so I am not sure what those parms would do.

In any case the rate you need depends on the data compression codec you are using. G711 which is uncompressed takes a lot more than g729. Unless you are on some extremely small connection I would set 100kbits as the rate. This will easily allow g711 with the overhead.

Be aware you can only really control this for traffic you send, traffic on the download side is controlled by the ISP and they...
