Hi

I am getting the 'No Bootable Device' error on a Toshiba Satellite L50D. I have tried disabling 'secure boot' and changing the boot mode to 'CSM boot,' as suggested in various forums with no success. I have no recovery disks at present, cannot enter safe mode, and have no recovery from partition option.

Interestingly the BIOS is still recognising the HDD. Darik's Boot and Nuke software is also recognising the HDD. Does this mean that the HDD is not dead, and all I need to do to sort things is order the recovery disks from Toshiba?

Thanks.

Hi Popatim

Thanks for the answer. I tried the 0/F12 option earlier and its not working.

What I am trying to determine at this stage is, if the HDD is dead or not? At present the BIOS is recognising the HDD, and so is a secure data deletion program called Darik's Boot and Nuke.

How do I determine if the HDD is totally dead, or not?

Thanks Popatim, will give it a go, and take things from there.

I've determined that the HDD is 100% not dead, as I've managed to install an old version of Windows on the machine.

Is all I need to restore the laptop a 'recovery DVD' from Toshiba? The 'recovery DVD' can be ordered online for about $60.

Can anyone confirm do Toshiba's recovery DVD's include a version of Windows, or do they only contain drivers?

Thanks.
