Hello all, I tried doing some searching on the net and this forum, but couldnt really find all the pieces I needed to solve my question.

I am still learning about RAID systems, networking/server's have always been my weak point. Im more of a troubleshoot/hardware/coding kinda guy. So please forgive my lack of knowledge, but thats why I ask, to learn.

I have a Raid 10 set up on Windows Server 2012 R2 : using Intel RAID Web Console 2 - 15.11.00.13 , controller Intel Embedded Server RAID Technology.

Right now there are 6 1T drives in the system. 2 are used for the OS set in RAID 1, 4 are used in RAID 10 for storage. I am needing to add 1T more to the RAID 10, to get 3T of storage. Am I able to pop 2 1T drives in the system, and thru the Web Console (or anything really), able to add those into the Raid 10 system and expand the virtual Drive volume to reflect the addition of storage.

If possible. Do I need to create a Raid 1 with the 2 drives first, then add it to the span?

I dont recall that INtell offers capacity expansion with complex raid sets like 10, 50, or 60.
In any event, since your first step would to be to make backups, it would be far faster to simply wipe the existing raid, create the new raid set, and restore back to it.

If you value your date, make sure the backup is good before you begin. I would suggest making two backups if possible.
