Hello...
I've been having several issues for the past year now, and couldn't fix it till this day.
The issue is with my laptop, an Alienware M18X.
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
GPUs: (I have two of them) 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M.
2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M.
Now, let me get to the point now...
I've had this laptop for about 4 years now, and the past year and a half its performance has dropped drastically. If I launch TechPowerUp GPUZ to check the clock speeds and temperatures
while playing (Dota 2 for an example). The first 10 minutes of launching the game is perfectly fine as it runs in 120 fps. Several minutes later it drops a whopping 90 fps. After checking GPUZ and the clock speeds, temperature etc... I notice a large difference in the sensor tab of GPUZ.
When at 120 fps: GPU Core clock: 776.3 GPU Memory Clock:625 and Shader Clock: 1550.
When at 30 fps(10 minutes after launching game): Core: 202. Memory: 162 and Shader at 405.
Another thing I have noticed when using Heaven Benchmark 4.0 to check the amount of fps I am actually getting it showed me that I have two GPUs. Both are having same clock speeds but different temperatures.
The first one had a static temperature of 50c
and the second GPU had a changing temperature of 70c-80c
Now, fixes that I have attempted(none worked)
1.Tinkering with the NVIDIA 3D Settings
2.Tinkering with the power supply settings.
3.Tinkering with the power plans and settings.
4.Formatting (There is no way this is a software issue)
5.Cleaning out the dust in the fans.
6. Tried overclocking (No difference)
7. Even decreasing the graphics of the game changed nothing... Dropping it to the lowest graphics and increasing the performance kept everything the same. Eg: High Graphics on dota 2 after 10 minutes is 30 fps.
Low Graphics on dota 2 after 10 minutes is still 30 fps.
I really need help, because this is getting frustrating as I can barely even play anything as good as I used to play them before.
Thank you,
Tony
