So the idle temperatures with the Gigabyte 780ti GHZ edition has been bothering me for a while now, the idle temps sit around 35 degrees when idle and around 80 degrees under load and i know these temperatures aren't awful or damaging but i do think they should be a lot lower. I looked for a solution and i seen a reference to 144hz monitors and a monitor connected through the CPU can cause issues with the drivers and cause clock speeds to stay higher even when idle, however my idle clock speeds are 324mhz which is fine.

I'm confused about the temperature because their is 3x 120mm 1x 140mm Noctua fans 1X 230mm and 2x 200mm NZXT fans and the case is the NZXT phantom and my i7 4790k (no OC) is sitting at 25 celius idle with a Noctua DH-14 so air flow is surely not the issue. The fan speed on the GPU is sitting around 40% idle and it doesnt seem right, the ASUS GTX 770 i had ran at 17 degrees while idle and 60 under load and that was with less fans and a smaller case, i didnt expect the same temperature just not such a drastic difference in idle temperatures.

Link to benchmarks and temperatures for 780 ti ghz edition.

Solution
You have zero problems or concerns. This chart is for a similar Asus DirectCU OC card, and was taken on a cooler open air test bench. You can't really compare with most reviews, particularly as you're probably heading into summer with warmer room temperatures.

One thing you can try is to go into your Nvidia Control Panel Global Settings and set the Power Management Mode to "Optimal power" to keep clock speeds and temperatures low at idle. There's an explanation of these settings here:

Thanks for your answer thats great to know, ill try the nvida control panel setting now. Yeah its pretty hot right now even at night, never really took that into consideration. Thanks again.

Summertime always makes those temps go up a little. For me, we've had a California heat wave the past few days and my reference GTX 780 Ti has been hanging around 85c. I would say to enable Adaptive VSync for you, but your high refresh rate makes that pretty much unfeasible.
