So I built a new computer a few days ago, and when I went to turn it on for the first time it powered on for a split second, then I couldn't get it to turn on again. I rebuilt it from square one with only the essentials. It booted no problem. When it came down to the hard drive however.. it did the power thing again. I tried replacing both the power and the sata cables but nothing is changing. My main pc has a hot swap drive bay so i popped out my drive from that one to test it and it did the same thing. So now I have another issue. I popped my drive back into my main pc after that test... and now my main pc wont power on unless my HDD isn't plugged in. Any ideas here? I'm getting kinda frustrated...

Hey there, Nefirneh.

Well it definitely seems like the HDD is at fault here. Unfortunately it seems like the issue won't let you boot or use your system at all, which makes it even more difficult for data recovery. I guess if you need your data, your only option would be to go for a data recovery company if none of the systems you try it with is able to power on. On the other hand, if you don't need to recover data go ahead and try to RMA the drive if it's still under warranty.

Hope that helps.

I went out and bought 2 new hard drives. Both of my computers are working again. I still don't know why my main hard drive stopped working after I tried it in my new pc though... oh well. Thanks for the insight :)
