Virtual Machine 3D Acceleration for Windows 9x

So far, the main VM software I'm seeing that has any 3D acceleration is VirtualBox, and VMware Workstation. But they only support XP and up. Does anyone know of a VM software, or a emulator that supports 3D acceleration for Windows 98 and Direct3D games?

I've heard DOSBox has been testing around with 3D acceleration, but I don't think its emulated hardware would be sufficient for later 3D 9x games.

Does anyone know of any hacks, tips, tricks, software, or otherwise to get 3D acceleration in a 98 VM? Even if it's not in VirtualBox, VMware, or DOSBox? Please help.

P.S. We have emulators for DOS and consoles, why haven't we made one for old PCs yet?

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely be checking it out. :) Hopefully if it works out, it could be a start.

It'll be amazing once they're able to emulate/virtualize Pentium IIIs and later GPUs. In particular, 3D acceleration to play games that require a GeForce 6200, and a 600 MHz Pentium III. Even if it's not really emulated(due to modern hardware speed limitations), but virtualized, and actual 3D acceleration, so the games won't throw up those darned Direct3D errors.

When and if I can get the OS working under DOSBox, I'll report back my experience. I'll also probably be asking some questions. :D

Well, I got a setup error during the Win95 installation (SU-0013). None of the issues that are known to cause this error apply to my situation, so I'm stumped. I guess I'll see if Win98se is more cooperative.

Wow, I'm stymied again: JDosbox requires Java in order to run, and I don't have Java (and have no plans to get it). I'll take another shot at Win95 later in the week, but this business is quickly becoming "not fun".
